Subdomain Configuration (english)
Frequently Asked Questions about the Subdomain Configuration
This section provides answers to the most frequently asked questions regarding subdomain configuration. We welcome your feedback to help us continuously improve and expand this resource.
What is a subdomain?
In the Domain Name System (DNS) hierarchy, a subdomain is an extension of a primary (main) domain. It is created by adding a prefix to the main domain name, separated by a dot (e.g., shop.example.com).
Subdomains allow you to organize and separate web content based on specific purposes, such as a blog, an online store, or a support section. For dedicated services like high-volume newsletter distribution, using a subdomain is often technically required.
For further information please refer to this resource:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subdomain
Can I use my main domain for sending?
-> No, in general this is not possible. If you use only your main domain (= top-level domain) for sending, your webpage may become inaccessible and you may not receive emails sent to addresses that end with your domain.
A regular main domain can only be used if it is dedicated exclusively
What is the structure of a subdomain?
The subdomain prefix is placed before the main domain name. For example:
- Main Domain: google.com
- Subdomain: maps.google.com
In this instance, „maps“ is the subdomain that directs users specifically to the mapping service while remaining part of the overall brand domain.

How do I verify if my subdomain is set up correctly?
You can easily verify your settings using the MAILEON Domain Check Tool. Simply enter the subdomain you intend to link to your account.
Note: If the tool displays errors, please contact your IT department or web administrator. Since DNS settings are managed on your side, XQueue cannot perform these configurations or provide direct technical support for your internal DNS management.
Who should I contact to set up the subdomain?
Please contact your internal IT administrator or your web hosting provider. They manage your domain entries and have the necessary access to create the required DNS records.
Is my subdomain active and usable immediately?
No, there is a technical delay:
- DNS Propagation: It typically takes up to 48 hours for DNS changes to take effect globally and be recognized by MAILEON.
- SSL Encryption: Secure communication requires an SSL certificate (e.g., via Let’s Encrypt), which is issued after the DNS setup is verified.
Note: If you need to send a mailing immediately, you can start with a shared subdomain provided by XQueue and switch to your custom subdomain at a later date.
