DOI Drafts

DOI Drafts – Creation

In the DOI drafts area, click on the Create new DOI draft button or use the “+“ icon on the top-right of the list. As with other emailings, the Content editing window opens, which is the first step in creating a new emailing.

Fig. 2: The first step in preparing a DOI mailing is to create a new DOI draft.

The DOI mailing draft is quick and easy to create. In the pop-up window, please select the New content editor to start editing the DOI mailing.

You have arrived at the basic settings interface in Maileon (fig. 4). This is the first step in setting up the DOI draft mailing.
The figure illustrates a completed data sheet, indicating which data must be included in the settings and which are optional.

Maileon: Basic settings of a DOI draft, highlighted section "DOI specific information".
Fig. 4: The most important aspect of the basic settings is the ‚DOI specific information‘ section.

Emojis may be included in the subject line and preview text, and personalisation is also possible in the subject line (square in brackets). Due to privacy regulations, it is recommended not to use this function for operating with personal data of the registrant; use it for varying company names or other dynamic content.

Please note: The number of characters in a subject line is fixed (max. 50 characters / 7 words) and must always be specific. The subject line should be designed to draw attention to confirmation.

One of the most important aspects of the basic settings is the DOI Specific Information section (framed in yellow), where values previously defined in the Settings area can be entered or selected: the DOI key, the Standard confirmation page, and the Standard error page. More information on this can be found in the Settings > Lists & Contacts > Contact Management section.

The DOI key is central to managing DOI mailings. It serves as a linking element, an assignment criterion for selecting a specific DOI mailing when there are multiple entries in the list of Active DOIs. A randomised string is initially set when creating a DOI draft, but this string can be individually changed if needed.

For additional guidance on creating a DOI key, please refer to the appropriate sections in the Help Center:

Sender alias in Sender settings should be consistent with the alias used for all other emailings, along with the Sender Email and Recipient alias.

Tracking, dispatch placeholders, analytics, and advanced settings share the same configurations as those in other emailing types. Use of these is optional, however, a brief explanatory text is provided on the interface for each option (fig. 5).

Maileon: Tracking method, analytics and placeholder setup in the basic settings of the DOI creation.Fig. 5: The tracking, dispatch placeholders, analytics, and advanced settings are additional options for basic settings.

Similar to other emailings, the next step after configuring the basic settings is content editing. This can be accomplished using Template Gallery, Saved templates, or by creating a DOI mailing From scratch (fig. 6).

Note: The Template Gallery already includes over 100 DOI templates available in both German and English which are ready to use.

The content and the structure of DOI mailings should be as clear, simple and concise as possible. Advertising elements, social media channels and other forms of personalisation are not permitted due to privacy policy. Additionally, complex or excessively personalised emailing undermines the primary purpose of the DOI mailing, which is to confirm the subscription.

Generally, an introductory text box and a confirmation button are sufficient (fig. 7).

Maileon: Editor2, basic content elements selectable in the Blocks section of the app panel.
Fig. 7: A DOI mailing consists of the most basic elements, typically requiring only a text box and a confirmation button.

In addition to maintaining simplicity, it is crucial that the content of the DOI mailing is as personalised as possible. Please see below fig. 8 as an example.

Note: Using “Hello [FIRSTNAME]” (insert placeholder) is not permitted. The use of personal data is only allowed after confirmation, in accordance with privacy policies.

Maileon: Editor2, image, text and CTA button in a DOI draft.Fig. 8: The content of your DOI mailing should be unique and attention-grabbing.

The most important element of the DOI mailing content is the Call To Action button and the subscription confirmation link. This special link cannot be replaced with any other. To access the link, please click the Define Link button in the editor interface (fig. 9).

Fig. 9: The text of the Call To Action button is customisable, but the link is fixed.

In the pop-up window please select Standard Links option and then choose Double-Opt-In Confirmation. Complete the process by clicking the Add Link button.

Maileon: DOI draft in Editor2, submenu for inserting standard links with Double-opt-in confirmation option.Fig. 11: Secondly select ‚Double-Opt-in confirmation‘ from the list of standard links.

Please note: If you don’t select the correct link, the entire process may be compromised.

It is also necessary to include an imprint before finalising the emailing. Please see the elements of the imprint highlighted in capital letters in fig. 12. Once you have finalised the imprint, save and close your DOI mailing draft. For accessibility reasons, the imprint elements should appear in the text in written form, as visually impaired people cannot access text embedded in images and therefore have no access to the referenced information.

Maileon: DOI draft in Editor2, highlighted imprint area.Fig. 12: Recommended elements of imprint are contact data of your company.

As with all Maileon emailings, the final step before completion is the Quality assurance, which is equally essential for DOI mailings (fig. 13).

As with other instances, DOI mailings are subject to complimentary audits and fee-based external audits, indicated by the Euro symbol (€).

Please note: The following image is illustrative and does not encompass all available free audits. The checks available at this stage are determined by the specific settings of your account, allowing you to select which checks you prefer to be listed here.

Maileon: DOI draft, Quality management options.Fig. 13: Quality assurance includes complimentary audits, such as image analysis or link checks, and fee-based external audits, such as SPAM checks.

The final phase is the Approval of the DOI mailing draft. As illustrated in the following image, the omission of optional elements (e. g. Tags) does not prevent the DOI mailing from being validated.

Note: Activating Standard DOI mailing checkbox in the last line means that the selected DOI mailing will become the default DOI mailing after Approval.

Maileon: DOI draft in approval phase, checkbox for standard DOI mailing.Fig. 14: Option to designate this DOI mailing as the default.

Default DOI mailing can be checked under Contact management > Subscriber management > default DOI mailing.

After pressing the activate DOI mailing button, the draft version is transferred to the active DOIs interface.
