3d – SmartContent – Shopware 6 (EN)
1. Introduction
SmartContent is a dynamic content feature from Maileon that allows you to automatically or manually integrate content from external sources (including RSS feeds, CMS systems, or shop systems) into your email campaigns. After a few simple settings, placeholders in the emailing template are automatically filled with content from external data, such as articles, images, texts, or product information.
Maileon includes several SmartContent functions for different source types such as RSS feeds, WordPress, YouTube, Magento, Shopware, or Typo3. These are activated in the user roles as view/usage rights. Please find further details about it at the Help Center.
This documentation describes how to insert the Shopware6 webshop into the Maileon emailing editor within your account.
2. Connecting Your Maileon Account and Shopware 6 Webshop
Note: A certain level of knowledge of the webshop is essential to start the process. The documentation on connecting your account and Shopware6 webshop in the Maileon Help Center provides detailed instructions for this process.
To retrieve your articles from Shopware, we need the access key from the sales channel you want to use. In Shopware, this key is stored in the sales channel settings under API access. Shopware also notes that each sales channel has its own access key.
When configuring the shop connections, you need to configure:
- the access key of the correct sales channel
- the ID of the language that shall be used
If you have several sales channels, it is important to choose the right one, because the key belongs to that specific sales channel.
2.1. Accessing Shopware 6 Data via API for Content Integration
To integrate Shopware6 content, you first need the API to access data from your Shopware administration.
Where to find the key in Shopware:
- Step 1: Log in to Shopware – Open your Shopware administration and sign in with your usual access data.
- Step 2: Open the sales channels – In the menu, click Sales Channels (fig. 1).

Fig. 1: Click Sales Channels in the menu to find the API key in Shopware.
- Step 3: Select the correct sales channel – Choose the shop or storefront whose articles should be connected to Maileon. Note: If you don’t have a sales channel yet, you can create one here by clicking Add Sales Channel (fig. 2).

Fig. 2: Select the appropriate sales channel or optionally create one by clicking ‘Add Sales Channel’.
- Step 4: Copy the API access key – Click on the sales channel you want to use and scroll down to API access.
- In Shopware, this section allows you to view or generate the access key for the sales channel (please refer to the Shopware documentation for further information) (fig. 3).
Note: Do not create a backend integration for this purpose anymore. For retrieving articles or product data from the shop, Shopware points to the access key from the sales channel. If you generate a new key, the previously used key will no longer work.

3. Insert SmartContent Placeholders In The Editor
The process for embedding SmartContent into an emailing is always similar and involves just a few steps.
